Tuesday 16th June
Car outing
Corbridge Roman Town and lunch
We will have a guided tour of the Roman site, followed by time to look at the Museum, and then a light lunch at the ‘Angel of Corbridge’. Parking is available at both sites.
Coriosopitum (Corbridge NE45 5NT) sits south of Hadrian’s Wall where the main north-south Roman road, Dere Street, meets the main east-west road, Stonegate, in the Roman Province of Britannia. The first fort was built in around AD84. The stone fort on this site now, was begun around AD140. Built as a supply base for troops stationed on the Wall, the large busy town which grew up around it continued to be occupied until the Romans left in the early 5th century. Only a fraction of the town remains but it is enough to show its layout and scale with some splendid ruins which give a feeling of how it might have looked.
The ‘Angel of Corbridge’ (NE45 5LA) dates back to 1569. The present Coaching Inn was built in 1726. It has a good reputation locally for its food. Corbridge is a very attractive old town. If this is your first visit, take a walk round after lunch.
This event is limited to 25 persons
See English Heritage website for more information: https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/corbridge-roman-town-hadrians-wall/
Cost: EH members £12.00 (£14.00) this covers the Guided Tour and lunch. Please remember to bring your English Heritage card. Non EH members £20.00 (£22.00) this covers entry into the Roman site, Guided Tour and lunch.

MANDERSTON DUNS, SCOTLAND - CANCELLED
Wednesday 8th July
Coach outing
Wednesday 8th July
Coach outing
The first house here was a square mansion, built for Mr. Dalhousie Weatherstone in the 1790s, probably by Alexander Gilkie or John White. In 1855, the estate was bought by Richard Miller, who was the maternal great-great grandfather of Lord Palmer, who lives here now.
Manderston is the supreme country house of Edwardian Scotland: the swansong of it’s era. It is difficult to believe that most of the house was built in the first years of the last century. It is a product of the best craftsmanship and highest domestic sophistication the Edwardian era had to offer. It was built for Sir James Miller, a nouveau riche Baronet who married into the traditional aristocracy and asked an up and coming Scottish architect, John Kinross, to create a home of glittering style to match his wealth and status as a country gentleman.
For more information see website www.manderston.co.uk
Cost: £46.50 (£48.50) includes coach travel, morning coffee, light lunch with tea or coffee, entry to Manderston
Deposit: £10.00(£12.00)
