Family owned for over 20 years, Yorkshire Lavender is an award winning nursery and includes lavender, sensory and dry gardens, a specialist plant nursery, natural grassland meadow and deer and sculpture parks. The gift shop features the ultimate collection of lavender products, beauty care, candles and oils, biscuits, conserves, chocolates and many more. We hope to benefit from an introductory talk on the fascinating world of lavender.
As East Yorkshire's finest Country House, Grade 1 listed Sledmere House was rebuilt in the 1780's and 90's by Sir Christopher Sykes and contains treasures by Chippendale, Sheraton, Joseph Rose, French furnishings and fine works of art. Many of these treasures were rescued by local villagers and estate workers from the devastating 1911 fire. The tour of the House will include the fabulously tiled Turkish Room which was inspired by the Yeni Mosque in Istanbul and will culminate in the Long Library, described as one of the most beautiful rooms in England and overlooking the Capability Brown landscaped park. The Sykes family moved from Cumberland to Leeds and then on to Hull, where a fortune was made from shipping and finance.
A two course lunch including tea or coffee will be taken in The Orangery and visitors are free to visit the walled garden, the Wagoners’ museum, the Triton Gallery and the Stables and Paddock.
Cost: £45.50(£47.50) - includes morning coffee and a two-course lunch
Deposit: £10.00(£12.00)
