AFTERNOON AT BOWES MUSEUM - Tuesday 24 July 2018 - by Car
Come along for an afternoon visit to Bowes Museum in Barnard Castle. Purpose built by John and Josephine Bowes, this magnificent museum houses internationally significant collections and has a wonderful story to tell.
We will have sole use of the luxurious Jubilee Room, splendidly decorated with silks and a chandelier and views over the beautiful surrounding Teesdale countryside, for a private lunch of freshly prepared sandwiches and homemade soup, completed with tea or coffee.
After lunch, with luck, we will be able to view the famous Silver Swan in action, before going on an hour long guided tour of the galleries and collections, when we will learn about John and Josephine’s wonderful story and the fascinating collections across three floors.
Following the tour, the afternoon will be your own. At no extra charge, you could visit the temporary exhibition which will be ‘The BFG in Pictures’; an exhibition of 40 original Quentin Blake illustrations, some unpublished, prepared for Roald Dahl’s classic story ‘The BFG’. There is a gift shop which sells a wide range of books, greetings cards, homeware, jewelry and much more. There are parterre gardens and park lands to explore, if the weather is fine and to round off the afternoon, you could visit Cafe Bowes for afternoon tea.
Cost: £20(£22) - includes entry, lunch and tour
Deposit: £10(12)
